Following Jesus
Jesus was single. And he lived a full life. As single Christians, we look to him as the blueprint for how we should our lives. Jesus had intimate relationship with his father, God, was focused on the work that God had for him to do, and surrounded himself with good community. At Come Tell A Story, we are giving singles the tools follow Jesus and live their single life well.
What Does the Bible Say about being single?
- “I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife— and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 7:32-35
- “Now about virgins: I have no command from the Lord, but I give a judgment as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy. Because of the present crisis, I think that it is good for a man to remain as he is. Are you pledged to a woman? Do not seek to be released. Are you free from such a commitment? Do not look for a wife. But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this.” 1 Corinthians 7:25-28
- “But the man who has settled the matter in his own mind, who is under no compulsion but has control over his own will, and who has made up his mind not to marry the virgin—this man also does the right thing. So then, he who marries the virgin does right, but he who does not marry her does better” 1 Corinthians 7:37-38
Why This WorK?
Did you know that 46% of the US adult population is single? This number includes divorced, widowed, and never-married individuals, all of whom are a part of the CTAS community. Research shows people are staying single for longer and settling down older, and some are choosing to be that way forever. A 2014 study conducted by the Pew Research Center found that by the time today’s young adults reach 50 one in four of them will have never married.
Studies show that being single allows time for personal growth, self-reflection, and the freedom to prioritize oneself. Singles tend to have more time for physical activity and are better at keeping friends.
Come Tell A Story is a space for single people to hear and be heard. Through the art of storytelling, we are allowing singles to tell a different story focusing on the blessing of singleness. God loves, cares for, and provides for the needs of his single children. Whether you have a desire for marriage or are blessed with the gift of singleness, we are happy for you either way. What we want the world to know, is that there isn't anything wrong with being single. In fact, singleness is right.

Impact
We believe that better people make better community members. By creating a space that is geared toward the support and nurturing of singles we believe that we will be making a positive impact on The Church and by way the world at large.
Stories stir emotions, build connections, and foster empathy. The human brain is designed to comprehend and retain stories, and the more powerful the story, the more likely it is to be effective. By training singles in the oral tradition, we are empowering them to own their narratives.
